Every Econovex panoramic fire has glass on the front and both ends, but you don't have to show all three sides. The same fire can be built in as a 3-sided bay, a 2-sided corner or front-only, using the side covers supplied in the box. Here's how to choose.
3-sided bay
Front and both ends on show. This is the classic panoramic look and the one that makes the fire a centrepiece from anywhere in the room.
How to build it: make the chimney breast or media wall the same width as the fire's recess size, so both end panels sit flush at the corners. For the deep range that's 1270, 1600, 1800 or 2032 mm wide, 560 mm high and 300 mm deep.
Best for: chimney breasts and stand-out media walls that are seen from the side as well as the front.
2-sided corner
Front and one end on show, with the other end covered. Good when the fire sits against a side wall, in a corner, or at the end of a run of units.
How to build it: run the wall flush with one end of the fire and fit a side cover to the hidden end.
Best for: corner fireplaces, open-plan rooms where the fire is seen from one side, and walls that continue past one end of the fire.
Front-only (1-sided)
Both ends covered so only the front glass shows. It looks like a traditional inset fire, while keeping the depth and realism of a panoramic fire.
How to build it: make the breast wider than the fire and fit both side covers.
Best for: wide media walls with shelving or cabinetry either side, and anyone who wants a cleaner, framed look.
Which looks best?
If you have a chimney breast, a 3-sided bay is almost always the most striking. The flames are visible as you walk into the room, and the glass corners make the breast look lighter. Go 2-sided or front-only when the wall continues past the fire, or when you're fitting alcove units tight to it.
Because the side covers come in the box, you can choose the layout as you plan the wall, without buying a different fire.
Clearances for every layout
- 150 mm clear from the floor
- 200 mm to a TV, mantel or ceiling above
- 0 mm at the sides and back
- Combustibles such as sofas and curtains at least 1 m from the front
